Slip-resistant Floor Graphics at BC Children's Hospital
This beautiful project was a collaboration between Live 5210 and BC Children’s Hospital to bring about a creative way of encouraging kids to adapt healthy lifestyle. Through the use of playful graphics such as animal foot prints, hopscotches, and islands, the project seeks to make the hospital environment fun, while also serving as a tool to teach. Although, it is not unusual to see floor graphics at Hospitals (usually in the form of wayfinding), the opportunity to use them as a teaching tool was definitely the right fit in this context.
In the past, schools, community centers, and libraries have all used floor graphics to educate children. However, this was a first for Multigraphics where the blank canvas of the Hospital’s windows and floor were used as a medium to create a learning experience. Needless to say, we are very proud and excited to show the result of this wonderful initiative and how beautifully it all came together.

How was Live 5-2-1-0 incorporated into the floor graphics at BC Children’s Hospital?
Floor decals are an easy addition to a passive environment to add vibrant color and help promote a healthy lifestyle by encouraging children to hop, skip & jump as they travel down the hallway. They were used in conjunction with a scavenger hunt to promote children to follow the path and interact with the various graphic elements.
The graphics were placed in a part of the hospital which sees many families throughout the day. It is meant to capture attention, generate excitement and inform children and their parents of the benefits of following a Live 5-2-1-0 lifestyle. Graphics were also added to the staircase railings to create excitement and act as a path leading up to the 2nd floor where the floor graphics were installed. Spirit Bear graphics were applied to the glass railing allowing viewability from both sides.

Our Work
- The project started with a couple of test prints to finalize the material, color, and finishing.
- Both 3M Clear Adhesive Vinyl and Anti-Slip Floor Laminate were chosen for the full job.
- The prints consisted of:
- A 54 feet long by 8 feet wide river graphic
- A 12′ x 4′ Hopscotch
- A 8′ x 4′ Frog Jump and an Island
- 95 bear claws
- 105 duck feet
- 165 frog feet
- 50 Moose hooves
- Various fruits and shapes
- Each graphic was printed, laminated, and cut to shape individually which were then installed on site piece by piece.
- The project also required covering a small section of windows with clear vinyl graphics and a glass handrail with spirit bears.
