Brentwood Tower 6 Hoarding

The Amazing Brentwood Tower 6 Hoarding

The next phase of the Amazing Brentwood development is here and we are excited to be a part of it. This time we are starting off with printing and installing a massive hoarding for the highly anticipated tower six. Brentwood Tower 6 is part of the Brentwood Town Centre development, a mixed-use complex that includes residential, commercial, and retail spaces. The tower will stand 60 stories tall with 369 homes, making it one of the tallest buildings in Burnaby.

With the construction underway, we were assigned to cover part of the perimeter (facing toward the mall) with custom hoarding graphics. The beautiful hoarding stretches for 400+ feet in length and stands at 8 feet in height. In addition to the hoarding, we also produced a 12ft x 16ft site sign at the corner of Willingdon Avenue and Halifax Street.

Check out the pictures and videos of our work below. For more details on the development visit https://homes.theamazingbrentwood.com/

The project spanned over a couple of months from pre-planning to completion. Like all of our projects, a dedicated team was assigned to plan, manage, and oversee the production and installation.

  1. We started the project with a thorough site check. Our team measured all the sizes and angles from which a digital template was created.
  2. The client then used the supplied template to create their artwork.
  3. Once the scope was set, we printed samples to ensure color quality and accuracy.
  4. After the samples were approved, the job was sent to production where we started with precutting the ACP sheets.
  5. The vibrant graphics were printed separately on our state-of-the-art printer using highly durable 3M Vinyl and Anti-Graffiti Laminate.
  6. Each graphic panel was then meticulously hand-mounted onto the precut ACP sheets – a process that took over a week of labour.
  7. In addition to the full panels, we produced 46 infill panels to cover the angled gaps at the bottom for a uniform appearance.
  8. After the production was completed, we began the final stage of installation which was spread over multiple days.
  9. For the final touch, each panel was screwed in using pre-painted screws to match the graphics and make the hoarding appear seamless.

Massive Building Wrap at YVR Airport

The First of Its Kind

Building Wrap in Vancouver

65,000 SQFT Building Wrap at The Vancouver International Airport

After almost a year of planning, producing, and installing this monumental project, we are absolutely thrilled to reveal our biggest project to date in its whole grandeur. Located just east of the Vancouver International Airport, the soon-to-be Airport Commerce Centre is impossible to miss with its fully wrapped sides showcasing YVR’s commitment to be carbon net zero by 2030.

Back in the summer of 2021 when the building went under construction, the team at YVR saw a great opportunity to emphasize their commitment to being the greenest airport in the world in the grandest way possible. Whether you are flying in, taking the Skytrain, or driving, the bold statement is towering above the surroundings that is visible for miles in all direction. What would otherwise have been an unsightly scaffolded site has now been transformed to reflect YVR’s branding, while glamourizing the path to YVR and concealing the future commerce centre for a grand reveal.

We are honored to have been trusted to execute a project of a scale the city has never seen before. Through this page, we hope to convey the months of hard work and dedication that went into this project. If you are ever in the vicinity, share your pics with us with the hashtag #yvrbuildingwrap. We would love to see it through your lens.

Our Work

For the first month and a half, our team went through an extensive pre-planning phase where they sat down with all the stakeholders including the installation and scaffolding teams. They then planned through the logistics involved in the production and installation of all four sides, the deliverables by each team, and the timeline it must be completed within. Once the plan was laid out, we produced and approved a few samples to test the installation method, color vibrancy, and the overflow of the image within the panels.

Due to the magnitude of the project, the production and installation phase was broken into four phases – each phase representing a side. The first phase was produced and installed towards the end of 2021, while the last one completing at the end of May. Throughout these 6 months, our team went through countless hours of printing, finishing, packing, and installing.

Behind the Scenes

Production

The whole project was printed on 70 rolls of Mesh Banner media and required over 40 days of printing, and 16 days of finishing in total. A few samples and prototypes were created to ensure accuracy prior to producing the full banners.

Scaffolding

There was a thorough review of the scaffolding being used as it needed to withstand the weight and wind load of the banners. By providing the specs of our media and accessories, our scaffolding partners were able to engineer, produce, and install the scaffolding to our specific requirements.

Installation

Spread over six months and four phases, the installation took about 20 days in total. An 80-foot articulating lift was needed to attach all the banners at the top which were then rolled down and attached manually on the remaining three sides.

Vancouver Pride Graphics at YVR Airport (2022)

Vancouver Pride Window Graphics at the Vancouver International Airport

After successfully creating a unique and innovative underwater experience in 2019 where the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) teamed up with the Vancouver Aquarium to showcase the importance of respecting the oceans, the YVR team has once again utilized the space for another community project.

As part of the 2022 Vancouver Pride Festival, the YVR teamed up with the Vancouver Pride Society to create an art piece that highlights their support as an airport that welcomes all. The artwork spans over 66 windows on the crossover between the Domestic Terminal and Vancouver Airport Skytrain station. The stunning and vibrant artwork was designed by local artist, Lindsey McEwan. In an interview with the airport she said:

“My aim was to include as many of the (over 32+) pride flags as possible. Each representing queer communities around the world, I placed them in a way that demonstrated how intertwined we are while keeping the integrity of each flag used”

We were honored to be selected as the printing partner for this beautiful collaboration and we highly recommend checking it out in person if you get a chance. It is located on the crossway between the Domestic Terminal Building and the Vancouver Airport Skytrain Station.

"public art and design that elevates built environments to uplift and amplify communities."

Behind the Scenes

As with all large-scale projects, it all started with a pre-production meeting to go over the process, site measurements, timeline, and testing.

After reconfirming the window sizes and adjusting the artwork, we ran a few internal tests at various ink densities to ensure product quality matches the vision of our client, all in all, while ensuring the additional elements of text and icons remain vivid.

The whole project spanned over 2 weeks with 4 full nights of installation and over 1600+ sqft of windows covered.

Kelp Forest (in Collaboration with Ocean Wise)

The unique experience of feeling like you are under water comes from the creative design and printing process. Solid elements such as text, icons, and kelp forest are all printed in three layers, while the water (gaps between the plantation) is printed with one layer of ink. When light passes through (whether natural or artificial), it gets blocked through the three layered areas while passing through the single layer. This lights the whole image up, while allowing you to see through the windows to create an illusion of walking under water.

Kelp Forest Graphics at Vancouver International Airport

Kelp Forest Window Graphics at the Vancouver International Airport

After successfully creating a unique and innovative underwater experience for its Wild Pacific Exhibit, Vancouver Aquarium teamed up with Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to create an experiential art exhibit using the same process. The purpose of the collaboration was to demonstrate that respecting the ocean is everyone’s responsibility. As a community-based, not-for-profit organization, YVR donates more than $1 million annually to its partners who contribute to the community. This was one of the ways YVR showed its support to Vancouver Aquarium. The installation was also an effort to delight passengers with unique and exciting visual experience as they walk between the Domestic Terminal and Skytrain station.

  • As with all large-scale projects, it all started with a pre-production meeting to go over the process, site measurements, timeline, and testing.
  • The first step was to conduct a thorough site-check to ensure we have accurate window measurements as it will be used to create the artwork.
  • Once we had the artwork, we ran a few internal tests at various ink densities to ensure product quality matches the previous job we did at Vancouver Aquarium, all in all, while ensuring the additional elements of text and icons remain vivid.
  • After the tests were approved, we produced the prints in three phases (22 windows in each phase). This was to ensure the best efficiency as we could print and install side-by-side to reduce the turnaround time.
  • The whole project spanned over 3 weeks with over 1600+ sqft of windows covered. The completed project can be seen below.
