One-of-a-kind Dichroic Film Christmas Tree at John Fluevog

It’s that magical time of year again when streets are lined with decorations, people are joyous, and the smell of Christmas is in the air. People are rushing to get gifts for their loved ones, while retailers are focusing on creating an enchanting experience for them in return.

Each year, retail stores push themselves to create the most eye-catching displays for their holiday season, with creative decorations utilizing lights, colors, props, and signage.  This year was no exception, with many stores outdoing themselves. However, one brand went above and beyond, and created something truly unique.

Nestled in a quaint area of Water Street in downtown Vancouver, John Fluevog’s flagship store has an undeniably spectacular holiday display this year. If you visit, you will find a giant 25-foot-tall Christmas tree made up of dozens of Acrylic panels, covered with 3M™ Dichroic Film all assembled on a metal frame. This head-turning reflective design is the brainchild of John Fluevog’s creative marketing team, and it is certainly a sight to behold. It has already created a huge buzz around the city, with many flocking to the store to get a chance to capture that perfect holiday Instagram post.

You can see some of the finished work below, but we recommend making a trip to the store yourself, so you can see the most magical Christmas tree in town this year.

Our Work – Creating the 25 Foot Tall Dichroic Christmas tree

  • Conducted multiple tests to ensure the Dichroic film, cut acrylic pieces, and drill holes all align with the client’s vision.
  • Produced 202 cut-to-shape acrylic pieces.
    • Each covered with 3M™ Dichroic Film that gives it the dynamic effect of color shifting when viewed from different angles.
    • Half the pieces were covered in Blaze (Gold-Blue) Dichroic Film, while the other half was covered with Chill (Copper-Bronze) Dichroic Film.
  • Each piece was carefully cut to shape with drilled holes for assembly.
  • Throughout production, pre-mask was applied as a precaution to prevent scratches, dust, and hand prints on the finished pieces.
  • All individual pieces were then supplied to John Fluevog who then assembled them together to complete the project.
  • The whole project spanned over 2 months.
